I read Liza Perrat's Spirit of Lost Angels, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson. I received a .mobi copy of the book.
About the Book:
Victoire Charpentier was the main character of the book. Victoire's mother was killed for witchcraft and her father was murdered by horses. Victoire wants a new life away from poverty and abuse. The book is a historical fiction, set in the days of Marie Antoinette, witch-huntings, small pox, hangings, and guillotines. I believe the book is set in France or a French-speaking country because the book does have French words throughout. My Review:
The book starts out with the community dancing for joy, over a man, who died by the guillotine. He was a dictator. His lady friend, Marie Antoinette, died as well. Victoire has a nice family, mother, father, and brothers. Victoire has heard rumors of her mother being accused as a witch. Her mother was a healer and mid-wife. Then, her father dies in an accident. Later, her mother is convicted of being a witch and was drowned in a river.
The book was a good read. Very graphic, especially when someone was hung or drowned or her father's death. Fast-moving. It starts when Victoire was young and progresses to when she is an adult. There is a lot of characters in the beginning. Read the book slow for understanding.
