Mark My Time Digital Bookmark Product Review (Tomoson)

Posted on 19:39 by Unknown

I reviewed Mark My Time, in exchange for review from Tomoson.

Mark-My-Time is a innovative concept to bookmarks. You don't have to use a ribbon or a paper bookmark. Mark-My-Time allows you to not only save your child's place in a book, but to record his or her time spent reading a book.

I wanted to review the product to track the time I spend reading to the kids each day. It is a great product. My kids can't read yet, but they can be read too. I may give it to my nephew since he is also homeschooled and his mother has him reading daily.

The product was awarded Best new product of 2004 by Book Expo America. Mark-My-Time comes in many colors: bright yellow, neon blue, neon purple, neon green, bright pink, and bright red.

The bookmark comes with a digital clock, in addition to a timer, which tells you how long your kids read for the day. Maybe your child has timed homework in other subjects, the bookmark can be used to track the time as well.

The product also features a cumulative timer, which stores 100 hours of reading time. The bookmark uses a watch battery.

The bookmarks are 8.95 each on Mark-My-Time's website. The website also sells digital book lights (countdown with a light), digital metronomes, and digital clip-on lights. The bookmarks are also sold in stores. The website offers a store locator

TruKid Hero Stick

Posted on 18:38 by Unknown

I reviewed TruKid Hero stick, in exchange for honest review.  This post contains Amazon Affiliate links. The Hero Stick is a natural balm, which can protect from skin irritation, bites, rashes, scratches, and eczema. The stick is made with Balm of Gilead, Plantain Leaf, and Calendula. The product is also natural and contains no artificial coloring or fragrances.

I enjoyed the product. My boys had a few scratches, in addition to skin irritation. My boys love to climb and jump. My oldest likes to run. This leads to a lot of bumps and bruises. The stick did not have a strong smell. It also helped heal their ouchies. I also like how it's easy to carry in my purse or backpack, depending on which one I am using. The product is available on the Tru Kid website, Amazon, and a few other sites online.

PowerMyLearning Review (Sverve)

Posted on 21:08 by Unknown
I reviewed PowerMyLearning, in exchange for honest review from Sverve. This is a sponsored post. I wanted to work with PowerMyLearning because my oldest child learns better via the computer and visual aides. Even though Brad is home-schooled, he still needs additional help learning. I have to find different methods to help him learn new things. I also signed Kalen up for an account. Kalen is starting to show an interest in the computer, other than trying to break the keyboard, mouse, and the printer. I bought him a little laptop, to teach him 6 things: A, B, C, 1, 2, and 3. Kalen starts school next year. He will be in Head Start and a Pre-school for kids with intellectual disabilities.

PowerMyLearning is an educational website for educators, parents, and children. The website provides games and activities for children. The parents can monitor the children's progress through the parent account.

You do have to create a separate account for each child, as well as the parent. The children's account needs to be created first. Then, create the parent and add each child's user name. The website then sends a request to the child to connect parent to child.

Also, the kids accounts don't require an e-mail to sign up. They will need their username, password, city, state, and birthday, in addition to school name.

I did it backwards. I created my account first, thinking I can add my children through the parent account, similar to a few other websites. Then, to add your child, it asks for a user name. Can't have a user name if your child does not have account. So, I went to create Brad and Kalen an account. Logged back into mine and added his user name. The website then said it will send a request to Brad to add me as his parent (which is a good thing and a bad thing. What if the child does not want you to track his progress? I definitely recommend the parents setting up all the accounts. ). The process will take a minute for parents with multiple kids.

Then, you log into each child's account, click on their name towards the top, and go to account. There are two options. Link the accounts or select, not my parent. (Another reason, I recommend the parents set up the account).

The website has over 2000 activities in subjects, which include:

  1. Math
  2. Science
  3. Language Arts
  4. Art and Music
  5. World Languages
  6. Social Studies
  7. Your Life
  8. Technology

I played with the games at first to see how easy or hard they are? Do the games require a lot of clicking? Do the games require a lot of comprehension? You can select games based on subject or grade level. I started at Kindergarten because both kids need to learn the basics. Kalen starts pre-k next year and Brad is in the 6th grade, but still needs the lower grade basics, such as counting, learning numbers, and ABCs. For Brad, I may mix it up a bit, letting him work on activities ranging from K to 6th to see what he can and can't do. For Kalen, I am going to help him prepare for school next year. Kalen will be attending two schools: head start and the school for developmental disabilities.

One game I liked, is Energy City, created by the Jason Project. The game is more for advanced learners. It is a partial city builder game and part strategy. You complete missions, while also keeping the city from running out of money and energy. It teaches kids how to conserve energy.

Potty Boot Camp Book Review (Tomoson)

Posted on 22:55 by Unknown
I reviewed The Potty Boot Camp, in exchange for honest review from Tomoson.  I received the book on CD in the mail. I wanted to review the book because my oldest has issues with potty training. He has made progress in the last two years. He will pee more in the pot, but doing a # 2 is still hard work. My youngest also needs to learn how to use the toilet. If he can rip off his diaper for pee and poo, in addition to running around naked, then he can get potty trained.

The book is 14.99 on the website. Riffle also has a blog on the website as well.

 My Review:

The author discusses how to potty train a child within four weeks. The author discussed how there are plenty of books on potty training available. I have a few of them on how to potty train a special needs child. All the books offer various advice and techniques for training children, but you have to decide, which is best for you. The book provides a description of popular potty training techniques, such as the train in a day and the timer method. For Brad, I made him go to the potty every hour, then two hours. I had the potty training watch from pull-ups, which beeped when it was time to go. Brad hated that watch and ended up losing it. Eventually, he would go pee more on his own, than in the pull-ups.

Riffel uses a four-step method for potty training. The steps include:

  • Prep work. You take your child to the toilet. Your child may watch other people go. You may bring books and games into the bathroom. You explain proper bathroom etiquette to your child (handwashing, proper wiping and cleaning, and flushing for example). You may buy potty training videos and dolls, which pee and poo.
  • Boot Camp. Consider your language and tone during this phase. You want your child to be comfortable to go to the potty, instead of scared. Write down your expectations. Choose the right time to start potty training. and remember accidents will still happen. Don't make your child feel bad.
  • Reinforcement. Remind your child when he or she needs to go to the potty. Get a potty watch, like I used to have. If you don't have one, set the alarm on a clock or your phone.
  • Maintenance. Remind your child to go to the potty. Regression may occur during maintenance as well.

Next, the book includes an assessment to determine if your child is ready for potty training. Kalen met two out of the four points. Brad also met two out of the four determinants. The book also has a chapter on potty poop camp towards the end of the book. I need this chapter badly. Like I said, Brad will pee on the toilet sometimes, but when it comes to poo, it is in the pull-up, on the floor, or in the tub. He will come and get me to tell me he stink, which means he stinks or he made a mess somewhere and wants me to clean it up.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Relaxation CDs By Jeff Gold Product Review

Posted on 01:13 by Unknown
I received Escapes by Jeff Gold, in addition to Sleep Well for Kids: Relax at bedtime CD's in exchange for honest review. Jeff responded to my post on PitchRate for Autism products and supplies. I have bought relaxation cds before (the infamous Autism CD) and it irritated me more than the kids. It had two sounds I am not a fan of: Thunder and lightning. The CD calmed my kids, but caused me a headache.

About Jeff Gold: (copied from Email)

California native Jeff Gold is a composer/musician who creates imagery through music; images that are emotional and melodic, restorative and uplifting. He composes soulful relaxing instrumentals which have received the attention of Wellness Centers, Spas and Music Therapists for their tranquil and healing qualities. Combining beautifully arranged acoustic guitars, piano, strings and flutes, Jeff has released two CD's "Soul of a Mountain" in 2006, and "Escapes" in 2009. Both area soothing and relaxing collection of melodies ideal for music therapy, yoga, massage, scenic drives or just winding down.

Jeff's 14-year old special needs nephew, Russell, became a big fan of these soothing instrumentals because they help to calm his overstimulation. Russell then passed his uncle's music on to his other friends on the autistic spectrum and they found that it is helpful to them as well. Jeff is also a contributing writer and music advisor to EXPERIENCE | PREMCHIT resorts, located throughout Europe and Asia, researching and writing articles on the physical, mental and therapeutic effects that are possible with music.

Jeff composes and arranges all of his own music, playing the guitars and pianos, and creating other instrumental sounds by computer. He also does his own mixing, mastering and editing; a skill he perfected as a television editor for shows like MTV's Making the Video, Baywatch, MadTV, and The Office. Jeff has also teamed up with hypnotherapist, Janet Montgomery to produce seven guided imagery CD's for The Live Well Series. Topics include sleeping soundly, stress management, and coping with cancer treatment.

Escapes Review:

Escapes has acoustic guitars, piano, strings, and flutes. I liked Escapes because it was simply music and no vocals. It is a beautiful, instrumental CD. One of my favorites was Del Playa, the first song. I think I can hear piano and strings.

Escapes is $7 for download and $12 for the CD. The CD is a little over 60 minutes long.

Sleep Well for Kids CD
Sleep Well for Kids Review:

The Sleep Well CD is a guided relaxation CD. It is narrated by Janet Montgomery with music by Jeff Gold.

It requires participation from the children. The CD requires them to have an active imagination/visual imagery as well. The children are going on a journey. The first step is to get comfortable and snuggly. Then, take a nice deep breathe in and out. They can close eyes, relax face, relax neck, and loose shoulders.  Children have to picture trees, flowers, the butterflies. Bubbles popping. You can blow away your worries, concerns, problems.

The CD is $15 dollars. The CD is about 30 minutes long.

ChildProtect DNA Test (US Family Guide Bloggers Program USFG)

Posted on 13:59 by Unknown

This Campaign is sponsored by US Family Guide Bloggers Program. The Copy and Pictures was provided to me. I will also receive a free DNA kit for participation.

I liked this campaign because Brad has a history of wandering. One example was last year. The kids and I, along with my nephew, niece, and great niece, took the kids to a stupid soccer game. I had free tickets because it was part of my school's alumni event. I was filling out a survey for some free gear, when I turned around, and Brad was gone. Hey, have you seen an 11 year old, Autistic boy, who speaks limited words, wearing red pants and a hoodie? Luckily, he was at the food stand, trying to order a meal.

  • ChildProtect by DNA is provided through DNA Diagnostics Center, the largest private DNA company worldwide and #1 in the United States.
  • 80, 000 children go missing every year
  • The first three hours after a child goes missing is crucial.
  • A DNA profile is a unique genetic fingerprint
  • Each profile is signed off by a physician when it leaves the DNA Diagnostics Center.
  • The profile is used by police when they find traces of DNA, for example, Saliva. The profile gives the Police something to compare the found DNA with.
  • A DNA Profile is $99. You can receive a limited $50 dollars off coupon by going to www.childprotectbydna.com and using code USFamily50

  3. Teddy Bear's Picnic
  4. I can
  5. I do, but I don't
  6. Little bear interlude
  7. Kalimba
  8. The train song
  9. say and play
  10. virtue of the small
  11. This old bear
My Review:

I never heard of Grove Kid Nation before applying for the promotion, so I had no expectations when I got the CD. I was very happy with the CD, the instruments, and the vocals. Made me slightly wish I stuck with band (but not the clarinet).

Rhythm Nation is a up-beat song, which used claps. It is a catchy little song. I thought I heard a guitar in the song.

The Why Song: contains harmonica. It asks a series of why questions, which reminded me of my oldest son. The song also encourages kids to stomp and clap. Why doesn't a spaceshuttle poke a hole in the sky? Why do chickens have wings but can not fly?  Why oh why? The answers never satisfy. Why oh why?

Teddy Bear's Picnic: It is the classic song, with participation for the kids (repititionFeatures the clarinet. there's a bear acting silly. running around, willy nilly.

I can: features the Didgeridoo and shakers. It is a good song, telling kids what they can do.  when i was a youngster at the age of three, i began to expand my vocabulary. i got my abcs together and soon i learned to spell. I can. wash my hands to my mom's surprise, ate all my broccoli before her eyes. (lyrics are in no particular order).

I do but I don't I do but I don't. but I do but I don't. I do but I don't. I will what I want. Yeah it's catchy. It's about kids having a hard time choosing what they want to do. It's like asking Brad to go to the bathroom. He does not want to, but he has to anyway. The song features the jugs.

Little Bear Interlude features the drums and piano.

Kalimba features the Kalimba. pass the popcorn, pass the popcorn. the kiddies are encouraged to clap along.

The Train Song features the banjo and encourages kids to make sounds with their mouth.

Say and Play features the violin. It is a catchy, fast beat.

Virtue of the Small features the Ukulele. This was one of my favorite songs on the CD. Tiny ants do things twice their size. These things remind us all of the virtue of the small. Tiny fish swim in the deepest seas. Raindrops fill the oceans over time. The laughter of a child makes everyone small. It's a big wide world and your heart is small. Little wings, big dreams, will take you far. Lyrics are not in chronological order.

This old bear features the clarinet, banjo, violin, and kalimba.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The DropZone product review from BryBelly.

Posted on 15:04 by Unknown

I reviewed the DropZone, in exchange for honest review from Brybelly. The Dropzone is similar to Plinko on the price is right. I got the product in the mail a few days ago. It was very heavy. I got it upstairs to the game room to lay it out and prepare myself for assembly. Took two people to get it upstairs and out of the box. and Viola no assembly. Everything was ready to go. The clear part at the top can be removed so you can insert your own logo or company name.

The product comes with a handle on the side, which I assume is for carrying. It also has a built in stand for support. Next, the product comes with 10 discs for playing. Finally, The DropZone comes with a white board set up at the bottom. You can write down points or chores or even dinner for tonight.

As soon as I set the game up, the kids (sons, niece, great niece) all started playing.

VIDEOS of the kids and family playing with the Dropzone.

USFG (US Family Guide Bloggers ChildProtect DNA Test) Sponsored Post

Posted on 22:05 by Unknown

This post is sponsored by US Family Bloggers. Ad copy and photos were provided. I will receive a free kit, in exchange for promoting and reviewing the kit. The child kit helps law enforcement locate a missing child/children. Every child has a unique DNA print. More information and a coupon code is provided below.

  • ChildProtect by DNA is provided by DNA Diagnostics Center, the largest private DNA company in the world and #1 hospital recommended in the US
  • Over 800,000 children go missing every year!
  • Law enforcement agencies state the first 3 hours of a missing child’s search are the most important
  • A DNA profile is a Genetic Fingerprint and every person’s is unique
  • Every profile is signed by a PhD when it leaves the DDC laboratory
  • A DNA profile is used by police when they find an item (saliva) that contains traces of DNA. By having a DNA profile on hand, the police have something to compare against. If there is no DNA profile, police need to collect DNA from the child’s home and send it to a laboratory to get the profile.

A DNA profile which years ago was over $400 is now only $99.  Readers will receive a limited time $50 off coupon by going to www.childprotectbydna.com and using code USFamily50

Overwhelmed

Posted on 23:32 by Unknown
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed--between the blog and the kids and life itself. Sometimes I feel like I put too much on my self, thinking I can do it, when sometimes I can not (which is why I write everything down now in a document, either on paper or on google drive).

Today, has been one of those days. I did a book blast, which freed me from posting on the blog, but I still had work to do behind the scenes. The kids acted extra today. Brad tried to break my door again because I took the remote from him because he kept messing with his brother. The hole behind my door has gotten a little bigger. My door is also cracked at the top, thanks to another meltdown.

I also tried to get him to try some tea for review. He did not want to try it. Luckily, he is sleep now. Last nite, even with 6 mls of melatonin in his system, Brad did not want to go to sleep. He fell asleep around 5 or 6 am. I know because I was woke as well. He also takes clonindine. I cant find my pill crusher (need an assistant to help me sort my things). Getting him to swallow a pill is ridiculous. You have to put the pill in his mouth, close it. add water, close the mouth, and make him swallow. otherwise, he will spit the pill out and I have to start over.

I am also getting tired of him peeing in my bed. He broke his bed months ago. I am trying to find a good one for him. Something an Autistic, ADHD, child can not break. He had a futon, but broke the frame. Ordered new screws and he still broke the frame. The frame is fine now, but now in the game room. The mattress on the other hand, Brad peed through it. Opened it up, it was blue jean material. His urine disintegrated it. So, eventually, he works his way back into my bed. I got waterproof mattress pads and covers, plus regular ones, and he still finds a way to pee in my bed. Last night, since he refused to sleep, I made him go potty every 30 or so minutes. My bed was dry in the morning. Yay. I washed my bedding two extra times, two days ago, because Brad kept peeing. Not sure, if he senses he is wet or stinky or wants to lay in his own urine. Sometimes, he will tell me if he is stinky. Sometimes he goes to the potty and pee. Yay me.

Kalen, though he can't walk, can climb into stuff and throw it out, pour it out, eat it up, or put it in his mouth. My poor toothbrush, he found in my purse and decided he wanted to use it. Good job, but use your own toothbrush lol. He knocked over books, paper, and bags. I had to get rid of my mini bookcase, because Kalen keeps knocking everything over. I gave it to my niece. I need something taller and more sturdier. The book case was left with nothing but my Carnival Plastic Ship on a stick and the phone books.

I also need my laptop fixed. Tired of Brad's desktop. Good for doing work, but I miss Microsoft office. I also can't find the book i am working on. I know i saved a back-up copy, but it is not on Google Drive. Could be on a flash drive, but not sure which one. I have gotten quotes, but they all was high--for a simple consultation.

Painting with the Chipmunks

Posted on 23:13 by Unknown
When I go Wal-Marting, I stop in the clearance section. The last visit--Wal-Mart had a sideway sale and I picked up a lot of arts and crafts. Here are some of the pics with the chipmunks (sons, great niece, and nephew). They painted the wooden dog and cat, along with their selves.

This is Brad. My oldest son. He decided to paint his belly.
